The Fallen started live as a novel I started writing back in 2015. I have always been in love with anything to do with zombies, from classics like George A. Romero's Night of The Living Dead, to the Korean Masterpiece Train to Busan. Games like Resident Evil and Left 4 Dead scared the hell out of me when I was younger, and more recently television shows like The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead have had a massive influence on me when writing this piece.

The Fallen started life after I became addicted to reading the incredible Walking Dead Novels by Robert Kirkman and Jay Bosansinga. That series of books is what inspired me to write my own story based on a zombie apocalypse. I can remember I was sitting on a bus in Bristol, making my way down to my job and suddenly I just started writing on my phone and by the time it was time for me to get off bus, I had a main character, a plot and a location and The Fallen was Born.

Originally called "The Rising", The Fallen is set in the marvellous city of Edinburgh, anyone who knows me, knows that I have a affinity with the glorious city. It follows Dani Cunningham a teenager who is still trying to find her place in the world and her little brother Cal as they try and survive in a city that has fallen to the dead.

 

Originally from Bristol, Dani and her brother moved to Edinburgh with their mother, Margaret to stay with their Auntie Olivia, while they tried to med the broken pieces that was their life following the death of Dani and Cal's father. He died of a mysterious illness that seemed to be untraceable, one that the doctors had no idea about or where it had even come from.

 

While the family are living in their Aunties small apartment, an emergency broadcast comes on the TV informing them that the city has fallen during a zombie outbreak. One that the government has covered up and tried to hide from the public in the hopes that it would go away, but it was too late and the dead take over the city, wiping out hundred of thousands of residents. Soon a group of the rotting corpses burst into the apartment killing Margaret and Olivia.

Dani and Cal are saved by a group of soldiers called The Crows, a group of soldiers sent into the sea of the dead to try and find survivors, they must get them to the safety of Atlantis, a community built the in the middle of now decrepit and empty city. What follows is a story full of twists and turns and heartache.

The Fallen is a mixture of dark, creepy storytelling and incredible voice acting from some sensational voice actors and is one to really send shivers down your spine and to make you sick to your stomach.
